Welcome to the Current Middle Ages!

The Shire of Tír Medóin is a local branch of The Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc.

The SCA is an educational organization dedicated to the study and recreation of the Medieval and Renaissance historical periods (the years between 600 AD and 1600 AD). Our fighters construct their own armor, recreate both armored and rapier fighting styles, and construct their own arrows for Medieval archery. Members of The Society study and recreate much more than combat arts, though. All the crafts, sciences, arts, traditions, literature, etc. of the Medieval and Renaissance historical periods are subjects of study and recreation. Members also sew their own clothing, compose songs and dance routines, play period musical instruments, brew (and drink!) their own beer, mead, wine, and cordials, weave tapestries, create beautiful documents through calligraphy and illumination, and so forth. Basically any function in Medieval or Renaissance society, such as woodworking, blacksmithing, storytelling, heraldry, cooking, jewelry making, etc. is done by someone in the SCA! The Society was started in 1966, when a small group in Berkeley, California decided that the 20th Century could stand a dose of chivalry, pageantry and fantasy, not to mention feasting, revelry and merriment! The SCA is now an international organization, with a "Knowne World" consisting of 19 Kingdoms and over 30,000 members within the United States, Australia and Europe. Each Kingdom has its knights and nobles, lords and ladies, and its King or Queen, who has won that title by right of arms on a field of battle. Located in the Southern region of the Kingdom of Ansteorra, the Shire of Tír Medóin encompasses a broad area of land that includes Temple, Rockdale, Taylor, Lexington, Belton, Cameron, Troy, and everything in-between. "Tír Medóin" is Gaelic for "The Heartland", which accurately describes where we are. Our mission to bring the chivalry and pagentry of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance to the people of Central Texas. Join us as we dress in the period clothing, attend events which may feature tournaments, arts exhibits, classes, workshops, dancing, feasts, and more. Attend "royal" courts where Ansteorra's crown recognizes and honors members for their contributions to the Kingdom.

You don't have to have clothes or a name picked out to join us, nor do you need to be a member. Just contact our Seneschal to get started or ask questions.
